Gents, I have to say, since joining this forum and in general since moving towards pipes away from cigars, I am astounded at the genuine all-round goodness of the folks who partake in our wonderful hobby.

Whether its doing on online trade, talking to another pipe smoker in a lounge, finding a work colleague partakes and going for dinner, meeting people at a pipe-show, there is an even-handed genuineness about these folks that I thoroughly enjoy, and long may it last.

Let me contrast to some others.

E-Bay. Ever done a deal on E-Bay that has a hitch or two in the process? You'll know what I mean.

Sports Forums. "I think Floyd Mayweather is the GOAT". "Well you're a complete noob, I've been watching boxing for 20 years and blah blah blah rant rant rant".

Political Forums. See above but with more personal attacks and less maturity.

Cigar Forums. Hurts me to say, there are a lot of posers in the cigar world. There is a wonderful community akin to ours, but go to a lounge and you'll also find cigar tourists who are effectively yuppies who like the bling image and know nothing of cigars, and just like showing off that they can throw around $60 on a cigar. Even in some shops you go to, the person in the pipe section is older and wiser and helps out, the cigar folks tend to be younger and a bit more of a salesman. They are onto this trend too.

Wonderful folks, patient gracious and calm. I'm going out to the Chicago Pipe Show in a couple of weeks, hopefully will see some of you there. Look for a tall Irishman in a sportcoat with a black Peterson ebony pipe, gazing in wonder at all there is on show!!

    -G

    Cigar Poseurs?! Really?!

The PSF cigar forum, such as it is, is my FAVORITE cigar forum because we're generally pipe smokers looking at stogies as an interesting if somewhat troublesome afterthought. Cigar lifestyle demands a lot of extra energy that pipesmokers eschew.

Don't let the ancients bother you. They are mostly harmless and just blow lots of smoke.

Um. Okay. But when I lived in Chicago one would NOT want to tell a Ryan, a Kelly or an O'Sullivan they were not a "real Irishman." :xd:

True!....but I can never understand the insistance and emphasis of folks calling themselves 'Irish' on places like this - don't get me wrong, I like Irish people - but not especially more than Welsh, Scots, or Dutch etc.:). I often wonder how many internet 'Paddies' have actually been to the 'Emarald Isle' - apart from maybe on vacation!;).

I'm one! Me! That's me! I had me a great uncle Percy and a great uncle Dennis who hailed from Dublin; one became a NYC policeman and the other a NYC fireman. They both passed before I was born. And then I went to Ireland on vacation to kiss that bloody Blarney stone and claim me fookin' heritage. Give me a few drinks and tell me I'm not a real Irishman and I'll punch a smaller guy in the nose.

    What do I win?

Thanks, Taffy. And as an Irishman I wouldn't settle for less. :toast:
