    Hi everyone,

What are the suggestions for a starter tobacco, im looking for something that will smell good for other people around maybe vanilla or chocolate and not strong. in 2004 I had some brigham tobacco and people would stop me to say how it smells good.

I'm sure some will disagree, but Captain Black in the white pouch gets compliments almost every time!

Lane's Black Cavendish Aromatic would be good too.

Are you importing or buying local?

If you are buying Brigham products, the Mark Twain and Royal Viking both smell pretty good, and the "Brigham's Own" is nice too.

Peterson's aromatics smell nice - Connoisseur's Choice especially so.

Short Cut To Mushrooms- A pleasing note to everyone, and it doesn't bite so it is good for starting out...

Heck, if you call Boswell's in PA you'll not only get the great aroma but good taste as well. Get a few ounces of chocolate Cream and Pennsylvania Dutch treat. Both are mild with a great room note.

These are very good and mild.

I also like MacBarens Vanilla Cream and Dans Blue Note and as mentioned already Petersons make some very good aros.

Watch out with the MB blends. Some can bite so take it slow and easy. I recommend MB 7 Seas Royal Blend if they have it.

I think most pipe tobacco blends smell "old timey" and are acceptable to the general public, except for most English blends, latakia reeks to high heaven of burnt tires and dirty socks and is not a sociably acceptable tobacco in my opinion as are most cigars are not acceptable in the public domain. Personally, when I smoke out in public or around other people, I smoke a blend that will not be offensive to their senses; I want them to have a favorable impression of pipe smoking.

ahh ok thanks, the peterson pipes has the hole pointing upward does that help allot to reduce the bite effects ?

Thats the P-lip system. Your whole mouth fills with smoke, so if the baccy is gonna bite its gonna get you either way. It might reduce it a little, but if you take a bunch of hard puffs on a hot pipe your tongue is gonna feel like it was cut up and then dipped in hot sauce.
