Yes indeed. The aromatics from Dan are first rate. And they go easy on the black cavendish, preferring a larger amount of Virginia instead. Lots of flavor, and the aromas are nice and natural rather than chemical.

And then there are offerings from individual tobacconists like Merker, Huber, Kargl, Zander, etc. which I hear are even better.

That's a great blog BTW! I'm glad to see you reviewed the Grand Orientals and give Smyrna No. 1 full marks. McClelland didn't shy away from using a good amount of oriental leaf, so you can really taste and smell it. I haven't opened my tin of Black Sea Sokhoum yet. Looking forward to it.

In the meantime, contemplating some LBF in a Peterson 03.

Trying Escudo for the first time ever. I think it lives up to the hype, but it is extremely similar to Dunhill DNR. It seems like it may be more mature, or it may just be my sample has more age than the DNR I've had. I would not be surprised in the slightest if someone told me they were the same blend, just re-branded. I definitely could smoke this blend forever. Orlik has a great thing going with their Virginia and Virginia-Perique mixtures. Orlik Golden Sliced, Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake, Erinmore, Escudo, Dunhill Flake/DNR... just awesome all around. Even their shag-cut "cigarette" tobacco is really good, particularly their Turkish Export, which I enjoy in a pipe every so often.

After our recent Tobacco Clay trade, Psquared pm’d :-
I see you've been hitting the Road Apple. What did you think?
Here's what went in the jar, rough measures:
    ***********, *****, ********, *****, **** (I don’t know if it’s a secret mix)

This poses a problem I tried to explain to Buistd who’s sending a package of blind samples for me to review that I just don’t get all this top/mid/base note stuff.
I can’t identify Cherry in Gawith Hoggarth’s Black Cherry OK it tastes Sweet but that’s as far as my Neanderthal grunts go !
    My reviews go more :- 1 I like it, 2 it’s not bad, 3 I don’t like it.
    Road Apple Blend get’s a 2
I’m confirmed Latakia Junkie and with a couple of oz. of Gawith blending Latakia added it would shoot up to 1
I even like smoking Latakia neat. The Carter Hall is the same I like the earthiness but don’t get the burnt camp fire taste,
so I added one pouch to the current Wicker Mix and 10/10 it’s a great blender,
I’ve built but not yet tried a “smoker” and certainly some of my Black Sea Basma Turkish will get cold smoked, if it grows to crop size.
I’ve yet to try the Frog Morton Cellar sample Psquared so kindly sent as liking the Name I’ve been saving it for Rekamepip’s

to land, maybe Customs don’t like the box he’s sent it in

Isn’t this a great, friendly diverse world wide forum, I’m glad I found it and joined 93 days ago, Wicker Mix in the ClayPril as I send this

OK, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Blue Note didn't have much flavor at first. But after repeated smoking (at the urging of my wife) it developed more and more character. I now enjoy smoking it even when my wife isn't home.

Peterson makes an incredible range of good tobaccos. Their Nutty Cut is one of my favorite dry-smoking aromatics, along with Davidoff Danish. Top quality weed.

Still contemplating whether to fire up some LBF in a Peterson 03.

Since I did cheesy tortellini soup for lunch, I'll have some Beef Stew for dinner. Beers with a buddy and maybe some Prince Albert for dessert:toast:

Have some Penzance drying for a late night smoke:bing:

Great voice work, PipeSimmo! The tonal quality was obviously brought about by a steady and conscientious regimen of pipe smoking. I don't know how German tax law works, but those Tinskys sound like a professional expense to me.

    Contemplating LBF in a Peterson 03 ...
