Stoking some MB Navy Mixture in a Cavicchi Author ...
The Mac Baren blenders hit the pub early on days when they toss this one together: it has only 30 different tobaccos instead of the 35 you get with Mixture.
In a nutshell Navy Mixture is non-aromatic version of Plumcake. There's a faint trace of rum, but otherwise the tobaccos play the major role. Not even a whiff of the usual Mac Baren honey toast aroma. Excellent blown through the nose: very mellow high grade tobaccos. I suspect that's why it's pricier than Mixture.
The Cavicchi is odd: it mutes the flavor of any tobacco smoked in it. The chamber is narrower and a tad deeper than my other Authors, so maybe that's it.
Gorgeous again down here today. Kendal Kentucky in a monster cob.
Blue Mountain, in a blasted bent dublin.
CH in aMM Diplomat
Calling for a wet day here in the beach, but the temperature is going to get up to 9 so it will be warmer at least. The list of items the lady of the house wants done is growing so I have loaded my Peterson Canadian up with some Peterson Sherlock Holmes and am heading to the job site to grab my tools. Then home to start knocking down some of this list.
Happy Birthday!! That,s a great way to start.
Tis supposed to be over 50 degrees F today. I'm gonna have to hobble out to the garage, I bet I would do ok with a cigar length smoke. Still cat do much without pain that's a 10 on a 1-10 scale.
Happy birthday! And a great start to the day!
Good Morning pipe smokers of the free world, It's a little moist this morning in the (New York) Shire but starting to warm up, started the day with GL Pease Laurel Heights, very nice thankyou! in a Benton Big Ben, this pipe has greatly improved with the correct tobacco, with coffee in my favourite cracked handled slightly wobbly handle that could break at any moment, (one likes a little danger in one's life)
Good morning all! Starting the day with some fresh ground Papua New Guinea coffee and some SL in my bent bulldog.
Good Morning everyone. Starting this day with a dip of Grizzly wintergreen in the lip as i'm waiting on my big cuppa pg tips to brew. Then on to jump-starting the with some baccy from my old friend FMOTT in the 1952 Sterling Pete. 56F 13C, expecting thunderstorms today and for the next 3 days as well. Oh, well. April showers and all that.
For an added zing you can pass the cup briefly over the family jewels before bringing it to your lips.
Still sawing away on the MB Navy Mixture. The dark-fired is kicking in now. Very nice.
Trying an Aromatic sample I have in a Mr Brogg pipe drinking coffee. The coffee is good.
I've tried both - the #1 and the #2 , and a sample of #4. Ascanian #2 is my favorite of the Ascanian edition. Ascanian#1 (Soft&Unique) has two different matured VA's, one from Sambia and from Mysore - with a dash of Orient and 5% Perique. But it's quite boring and inexpressive. Ascanian#2 (Sweet&Gentle) is based on #1 but there is 10% Perique (and that 5% Per makes it a whole different tobacco, just WOW)
Ascanian#3 (Smooth&Latakia) has 5% Perique and additional 5% Lat, Ascanian#4 (Dark&Mellow) contains 10% Per plus 10% Lat
And because this Ascanian#2 is sooooo awesome I'm smoking a bowl of it now - in a MANGER. Coffee on the side.
Have a great sunday everyone!
everytime I see this pipe or hear the name I think of "beans and franks"
