30 degrees . My morning smoke of SWR is now at the point of being done in the truck on the way to work as opposed to sitting on the porch . I'll be caulking all day .... it's one of those.. smoke a beater pipe days for sure . Either a Whitehall Billiard or old cob .

I am leaving this restricted smoking area condo later this morning so I will be packing a Falcon with CH for the trip home. Still have a couple of days vacation so I think I will break out a couple of new to e blends to sample when I get home.

After having at least one smoke out of each of my brands yesterday, I cleaned all of my briars and half the cobs before bed. Then got up this morning to 13-degree temps, wind chill of zero. Had my favorite Italian pipe beside me and the tub of Walnut. Did not pack the pipe, ate some grits for breakfast instead. Left on my 32-mile trip to work without even bringing a pipe with me! This is not sounding good!

Upon my Dad's request, this morning I tried some Blender's Gold brand Toasted Cavendish from the shelves of the local Walgreen's. For $2.30/oz (came in a 3.5 oz tub) the price is right. I expected it would be, as he's not a big spender on luxuries. It was moist fresh from the tub but it smelled good. I had an ol' Pipe Maker rusticated bulldog on the bench that I wanted to try out, so I used it. I guess it tasted okay, burned fair being as moist as it was, smelled good and wasn't too awful wet of a smoke. Think I'll try it again in a couple of days in the same pipe. I'll probably end up blending it with some Smoker's Pride or Carter Hall before I'm done with the tub.

Dorchester in a spillcob. I'd say this little pipe is now broken in and smoking perfectly. I love my briars for those contemplative times when I can focus on the pipe, but the simple mechanics of a cob are perfect for no-brainer morning commute smokes where I've got to focus on not getting rammed by some dullard with a cell phone in one hand and a coffee in the other..who's driving? his knees.... I think.

After the usual morning bowl of C&D Red Odessa, it's MacB Golden Extra in the new fruitwood-carved smooth finish pipe from John (rekamepip) - this combo is great! I suspect he soaked the wood in Jack Daniels Honey, and MacB blends have a honey/meade flavor to them usually. Smooth easy open draw, lightweight enough to smoke hands-free, and a lovely vertical grain on the bowl as a bonus.

As for the special little extra ... I'll need to snap a pic. Y'all would not believe if I tried to describe without a pic.

Starting off the day with happy, well fed kittens and my next to last bowl of Ancient Edgeworth Ready Rubbed (thanks Flatbush Paul) in an old grain relief, partly smooth full bend "V" shape bowl Ben Wade Prominence freehand with the letter A and the numeral 2 in circles.

    Good morning to all
A dark rainy start to the day here, first bowl of the day is some well aged FVF in
a Stanwell Canadian. When I opened the lid it smelled like a jar of brown sugar, a very
tasty way to start the day.

Smoked half a bowl of Epiphany from the tin of it that I've had for a few months. Still prefer Painter Hills, which is what is in a medium IMP meerschaum and putting a smile on what passes for a face. Second pot of coffee while sitting here looking outside at the hoar frost that's building up on the bushes. Winter can be beautiful. -12C(10F)H98%
