Après sex with the pipe smoker: excuse me, Liebchen, while I go lamp-dry this G&H flake.

Man, no wonder these pipes are such chick magnets.

MB Mixture in a Sav 315 EX ...

MB Mixture in the brand new Savinelli 315 EX ...

No break-in woes on this one. The first bowl was flawless. No trace of bitter or sour notes. Just the warm fragrant plumes of good Virginia rounded with Burley and spiced with dark-fired Kentucky.

To say it's cool smoking is an understatement. It might take roughly the age of the universe for heat to propagate from the chamber to the outside walls of this monster.

It was a cinch to light, though I realize these wide chambers drive some people crazy. A one-second hit with the torch lighter, followed by an extremely light tamp to even the surface, worked wonders. Repeating that sequence four more times gave a good solid burn, with the rim remaining completely cool. The whole process took only 2 minutes, and I didn't need to relight afterwards.

I'm sold on these wide-chamber pipes. They deliver a ton of flavor. But if you're the kind of smoker who likes to get his pipe going in a hurry with a lot of puff-puff-puffing, then I'd advise against the 315 EX: you'd likely fry your tongue, or die first of exhaustion.

I like it. I give it 3 stars out of 4 (TR scale). As many tobaccos do, it just keeps getting better as the bowl burns on.

Have stuff to do, so I'm up early. Suzy and Molly surprised me by not noticing. Well, they'll notice I'm sneaking in a smoke of Molto Dolce in a straight 1979 MM Legend. They won't notice the glass of Simply Orange, though.

Last day of the conference. Took a little walk this morning and enjoyed a quick bowl of CH. Heading home after lunch and I'm sure the POY will be burning CH most of the way. Have a great day!
