And now for some Marble Kake in the Squatch volcano. Gonna have to scrounge something up to eat around here. Beans and cream cheese, I guess.

Got some Butternut Burley going in the big WDC Wellington right now. Taking the bike to work today, so there won't be much opportunity to smoke 'til I get home. Have a great day, all!

I started off this morning with a DGT of the FMOT in my meer-lined Grabow from last night. After that I moved on to Brebbia No.9 in my Wild Honey pipe. I've packed the usuals for the workday. Drinking coffee, out of a large brown mug, splashed. It's my last day of the work week. Don't have to go back 'till Tuesday! Good morning everyone!

    Stokkebye's 4th Generation 1855 in a Sav 316 EX ...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

1855 is a superb smoke. But so is Mac Baren Va. No. 1. The two are almost identical. The exception being that 1855 is almost twice as expensive.

Well, you can see from the photos that they pretty much look the same. In 3-D, the similarity is even more striking. The two tobaccos have identical cuts, feel the same, pack the same, burn the same, and more or less taste and smell the same. 1855 has a slightly sweeter top note, but that burns away very quickly.

So, creating 1855 seems to have been a fairly simple process: start with Va. No. 1, spray it with a honeydew top note, wave the magic wand of corporatism, and double the price!

Do you detect a note of irritation here? I certainly hope so! I've also found that the 1897 and 1957 members of the 4th Generation line are clones as well: of MB 7 Seas Royal and Gold, respectively. The only difference, again, being an altered top note and DRAMATICALLY enhanced price tag.

The 1931 flake is the sole star of the line, a top-notch offering. It's similar to MB Navy Flake, but a lot richer, stouter, and more satisfying. Can't fault Stokkebye on that one: it's reasonably priced for what it is, which is nothing but great.

And let's not overlook Thuber88 in his inimitable role as General Buck "We'll Catch Those Commies With Their Pants Down" Turgidson:
