Had a great dinner of corned beef and cabbage with Guinness. Now I'm taking a break from homework to have a last pipe of Erinmore Flake, (is that Irish or Scottish or something else?) in a Peterson bulldog with coffee with Baileys.

Having a late night smoke of Steven Books/House of Calabash For Meerschaums Only Reserve in a Savinelli. The depth of flavor in this blend never ceases to amaze me. If there were such a thing as a pipe tobacco lottery, I think the grand prize would be a lifetime supply of this blend.

Nice night out. 63˚F (17˚C), 81%RH, winds calm. Definitely feels like before-a-storm weather. Supposed to have thunderstorms tomorrow, which would be mighty nice. I love a good thunderstorm, and we haven't had one in quite awhile.

It makes perfect sense, especially if you don't have problems with combustion. In my experience, though, the biggest problem with any compressed tobacco (e.g flakes, spun cuts) is poor air circulation, which usually leads to poor combustion and frequent relights. Heat usually isn't a problem with flakes: they burn nice and cool. Frankly, I can say that I have never had a flake burn too fast or too hot.

I've found that a broad shallow bowl promotes better air circulation and gives the tobacco room to unfold. Whereas a narrow deep bowl can be a bear to relight, especially if condensation starts to develop. Admittedly there's nothing in the world like a good chimney for intensifying flavor: I have one dedicated to Condor Ready Rubbed, which I won't smoke in any other pipe. But that's only because CRR is an easy-burning tobacco. I wouldn't smoke the Long Cut in this chimney though: too difficult to keep lit.

Good luck with that 'work' thing, dBear. I'm still trying to wind down. Unsuccessfully.

You keep getting me fired up to crack open the Anni Kake. It shouldn't worry me that I already have 3,141,592 other tins currently opened. One more won't hurt.

Okay, so you've got some open pie tins - but how many tins of cake do you have open?

So far it's a succsess, I can really smell the Cherries in the Gawith Hoggarth's Black Cherry pouch but it doesn't carry over into the smoke as such, though it doe's make it taste, pleasantly, sweet. I've always put a Vanilla pod in all my Tobbacos and a Tonka Bean in all my Snuffs.I've tried more Tobacco's since joining PSF, 2 months ago than I have in the last 10 years :msty:
