Never done it before, but these arrived this morning
    [IMG]
    from http://www.tobaccoseed.co.uk/index.html
I chose :- LIZARD TAIL ORINOCO
    [IMG]
A tall tobacco with thick textured, crinkly leaves which are spaced closely together on the stalk, producing a rich brown pipe tobacco. It is a favourite of pipe smokers but also makes a good blending tobacco for cigars and cigarettes.
Derived from the old Virginia Orinoco, an old variety that has been grown in Virginia for many years and is still used today.
and :- TURKISH BASMA, PELLETED TOBACCO SEEDS
    [IMG]
The Basma variety has small sized leaves being broader of their upper half. Their texture is moderately thick, elastic and soft. Their leaf colour is light yellow to yellow and light red. It is mild, sweet and aromatic tobacco, that is familiar to any smoker.
So I've been reading through the PSF threads
    https://pipesmokersforum.com/community/threads/growing-start-up.14807/
I came across this in the above
and thought I'd answer in a new thread as a UK growing log,
with some thing I found on :-

The basic reason why seedlings become ‘leggy’ is that they don’t have enough light, and they are attempting to stretch to a light source. However, here is a nice tip: Tobacco is in the same plant family as tomatoes. You will notice, as the little seedlings are growing, that their soft stem has little ‘hairs’ on them. These little hairs will actually become roots, if, when you transplant, they are below the soil. So even though it looks like your little stems, at the moment, are a bit weak and gangly, it really makes no difference, as, when you transplant, you can partially bury the stem into the soil, for a better root system to grow. I normally transplant so that the first set of leaves is just above the soil surface.

1600 Sir Walter Raleigh persuades Queen Elizabeth to try smoking

1/- per 1lb. tax Eh! that's not bad or should I just say Bollocks ? and get on with it ?

Best of luck to you. I was considering having a go at growing my own this year but I have enough trouble looking after onions, corn, courgettes and the other tasty treats we grow in our garden. Plus, not sure Mrs buistd would be too happy at the transition from edible crops to pleasure crops. There is also the possibility that it may become another branch of this ludicrous pipe smoking obsession I have.

I've been told that Eastbourne gets the most sunshine hours of anywhere in the UK. It should be perfect for it.

Tobacco certainly will grow here in Yorkshire - my old Dad grew some behind the garage in the very early 70's. I remember it hanging on the garage beams in netting. I don't think he was impressed with the final results though as it all ended up on the compost heap. I think it went moldy in the end, so drying it out might be your biggest issue.

Weeds are a bane to me in the garden so even thinking about planting some is as far leftfield as stalin was when you compare him to people like regan or that bloody woman aka thatcher.
Anyway shall we spot who gets drug tested in work. Need smilies but they dont work on this sony phone. I digress weed is bad remember nancys eggs anyone?
Im drunk so feel free to ignore any of the above, I mean im having to close one eye to type lol
