I recently got a sample of G.L.Pease Embarcadero from Snake and a tin of SG Sam's flake from buistd. The first time I tried virginia with orientals. Great tobaccos!

All this time I had the impression that orientals were smokey like latakia! I found that it's a very sweet and cool tobacco type.

Any virginia oriental blends that you enjoy? I want to try more.

    Thanks,
    Andreas

I am amazed I haven't tried any so far. I don't know where I got the wrong impression.

Mixture Mellow - you mean Standard mild? I was looking for something without any latakia. Which one of the McCl orientals would you suggest?

It seems that there are many kinds of oriental tobaccos. Xanthi, Kavalla, Samsun, Izmir etc etc. Is there anything Iin particular I need to know about these?

I like the McClellands Drama, Smyrna and Samsun but Cornell & Diehl's "Oriental Silk" takes the prize for me for best VA/Oriental.

If there's something in particular about oriental strains that you need to know, good luck! Hard to find good info on oriental tobaccos in the press or on the 'net. The good news is no, you don't. Just enjoy the blends. The McClellands series is nice because they tell you just which oriental is in each blend. I just wish they'd add a bit more of the leaf!

Possible order from 4noggins in the making, but,
    4noggins doesn't have any C&D Oriental Silk.

I'll try the McClellands first I guess.

I will follow your tip and just enjoy the blends.

Any other essential VA/oriental I have to try?

Standard Mixture Mild is discontinued. Unless
your local has some old tins lying about.

What if I like it? I'm not even going to ask him. It might as a "Bulwark incident" but with worse turn out ;)

What about Tonquin bean flavouring? Other than some SG blends, do you know of any others?

I took The McCl Grand Oriental "4-star TR Tour" and was very pleased with all of the smokes. Was like a nice long train ride with plenty of stops to pickup new local leaf! T'was a brilliantly fun weekend! But, C&D #414 Oriental Silk is a MUST for ori-lovers. Even bestest in a meer imo. ;)

That's right! It's not enough that I can't get Oriental Silk in the UK, now I want a meer to smoke it in. Stop winking!

Joking of course, I love the pipe and tobacco craze in here.

Maybe someone can "hook me up" with some Oriental Silk?
