Well gents. I finally stepped up and started making my own pipe. I got a great deal on some 2x2x14 Bolivian rosewood and 2x2x12 olive wood. First pipe will be the rosewood and then we will get into the olive. Wish me luck.

I dont want to rain on yer parade but Rosewood has nasty oils in it , that if you were to smoke through it ... might make you sick in a posioned kinda way . Theres a finish I use for use on Ironwoods ... it's basicly a rosewood oil . It's really posionous stuff if you were to inhale or ingest it . However , Olive wood is good to go ! It's a shame Rosewood isnt good to use ... the color and grain on Rosewood is fantastic !

Thanks for the info. I did some research and saw that some other makers made pipes from rosewood. Glad I didn't get too far into it. I still may make one out of the rosewood just to see the finishes product. The rosewood was on their clearance shelf. I got the piece for 11.00. I only paid 18.50 for the olive wood

Theres probably a way to cook whatever is bad in it out , hence the Rosewood oil I use on Ironwoods . I wouldnt take the chance is all I'm sayin . No doubt , make a Rosewood pipe ! It will be beautiful !!

Good luck! Take lots of pics pics.

I agree with ruffino that there may be some way to purge the rosewood of its "contaminates" worst case scenario, just use it for practice :)

Sorry for the giant pics. I blame Photobucket and my iPhone. Moving along. This is where I finished for the day. Getting colder out and I have to work outside. All work done with basic hand tools. No machine shop here. (Unfortunately) What do you think so far? Obviously nowhere near done.
