I've only been a true pipe smoker for a year now... Part of the fun of it has been the hunt & acqusition of pipes, mostly estate ones, partly because of my budget and partly because I like vintage pipes better, in general. It's amazing how certain certain shapes and sizes of pipes can speak to you.

One style of pipe that has really been speaking to me lately is the Bulldog. I always liked the shape of these pipes even before I knew whether or not they were good smokers. That I've found them to be excellent smokers has just been gravy.

My very first Bulldog was a Dr. Grabow "Royalton." It arrived on Christmas Eve, just perfect timing, as it was a Christmas present. As soon as I held & smoked it, I wanted more of them. In the last couple of weeks, I've managed to get 3 more of them. All of them have been good smokers for me. I know I will get even more, as it is rapidly becoming my very favorite style of pipe, both visually and functionally.

Just wondering how many others share my love for the Bulldog pipe? Or just what your own experiences have been with them...

    Don

    Fixed that for ya, buddy.

As to the OP, I love bulldogs, and have had many through the years. Every maker puts their own mark on them, the variety, even within that one "shape", is tremendous.

This is one of the few I have left, and it's my favorite interpretation of the shape. I sent Todd Bannard some pictures of an Emil Chonowitsch bulldog that had a bit too much (for me) Danish influence and asked him to make me one in the same spirit, but less dramatic.

If I understand correctly Bulldogs have a square shank and Rhodesians have a oval shank.

I share your love with bulldogs - I LOVE bulldogs! However, I only own two so far.
All your bulldogs are bulldogs - and especially those two at the bottom are really nice!
My first and only custom pipe, commisioned with Moretti has been a bulldog. I just love the shape and the fact they smoke flakes just nicely.

My second bulldog was a real steal. It's a Bentley Former's Design:
