Alright, I acquired a German porcelain pipe not so long ago. I've never had one like it before, therefore I have no clue how to use it properly. It's basically the same as this one:

People say to me, "you're German, you should know how it works. It's in your blood!". No. If anyone here knows how to use this kind of pipe properly, I'd appreciate some input.

    Thanks,

    I had a German great-grandmother, but she didn't smoke a pipe.

Ha ha, thanks for the replies.

Well, I've given it a shot. The problem is, it can't stay lit, even after 30 minutes of attempts. So, I tried putting a little water in the lower porcelain piece (the one that joins the stem and the bowl). It creates more smoke, but still has trouble remaining lit.

    I'm stumped.

I would expect to see a pipe like that at a hunting lodge atmosphere, nice relaxer after a day of hunting.

They make nice wall hangings but they're not much good to smoke. I had one and it smoked hot, hot, HOT! Really nasty. The Germans could only smoke them if they could cool their mouths off with some of their incredible beer! :D

Good German beer sound like a excellent reason to smoke it, I haven't had the good stuff since 1971 ;-)

It may be kind of a stupid question (sometimes I feel it), but how did you go about keeping it lit?

I may not know much about that style of pipe, but I can say that it is one nifty piece to add to your collection. Good luck figuring it out!

I think those pipes are why cigars used to be more popular than pipes in Germany.:ngty:
