elementary my dear Watson! that looks suspiciously like the 'three-legged' Isle of Man symbol, there was one pipe maker - Manx Pipes, that closed around eight years ago.....but very occasionally I'm wrong!
Close but not quite...
That makes sense because it was on a African block meer which I know they made a lot them, thanks.
Maybe it was the guy who invented these?
that's right - those are the pipes that get guys all excited, and bidding big - 'cos they think they are getting a Barling or Peterson
That's the symbol of the Isle of Man. That's about all I know.
A little more research reveals it to be a Manx Meerschaum. Millenium of Tynwald.
Here's a couple of pics of the logos on my Manx Meerschaum for ya', it's similar to the one shown in the link in phinz's post.
....see, I told ya! (that little triple kickass sign was put on when they were not sending 'em out stamped Barling, Peterson, Bewlay, GBD and any other company that wished!)
BTW....damn good pipes!
The Manx Meers are worth looking out for on eBay if you're after an African Meer, Barlings and Pete's will alway's sell for loads a' money but sometimes the Manx one's slip under the radar and they smoke exactly the same.
Thanks, I already have a Peterson Tawny De Luxe (surely made by Manx) which I got lucky and stole off the bay, it is one of my favorite/best smoking pipes...
I would like to get at least one more with the actually Manx branding though...
