Carter Hall: I get it.

For months I've passed up a bag of Carter Hall @ my grocery store- because I always have something "more interesting" waiting for me at home to smoke, thanks to swaps on the forum, samples, etc....not quite sure if I wanted to waste a few bucks on an OTC.

Some Carter Hall was graciously gifted to me by another forum member- received in the mail today. I actually dumped my morning bowl of Charring Cross to try it out. Coffee in hand on my backporch, I lit up the CH suspiciously (I've had SWR and hated it). And.....I get it. It's just plain good. Simple, good tasting- no nonsense. I'll consider it the graham cracker of tobacco- both figuratively and literally- it tastes a little like graham crackers. Wonderful experience, can't wait to smoke some more.

It's really good. I know the feeling that you think you have other more interesting tobaccos, and in fact you do. I have many more interesting blends but I doubt there are any other blends I smoke as much as CH. What it does, it does well. Very well.

I agree--I keep CH in my travel pouch as I don't think it can be beat for smoking while driving. Most of the time I can pack it and forget about re-lights (always a PITA while driving). Much better than PA or SWR. 99% of the time I smoke it in a cheap MM cob (which stays in my travel pouch). I bought a 14oz. tub and that seems to be working out pretty well.

Welcome to the club.
Ther are many of us who "get it". It's just plain good.

Yeateday, while out and about I passed a newly opened smoke shop.
I decided to stop and give em a little business, as I could use a tub of CH.
Now this place DOES sell pipes and tobacco , but as I look around the store I see H&H, PA, SWR, SWRA, MCB. But no CH.
The employee (middle aged woman) asked if she could help, so I said I was hoping for a tub of Carter Hall.
"Never heard of it" she said. So I asked the manager ( middle aged man ), "never heard of it".

Needless to say, I didnt buy anything. Wont go back either.

You live in Odessa Texas.......Same experience, they don't know squat about cigars, pipe baccy or anything else IMO.They have a very limited selection and what they do have is way overpriced.Pretty sure they sell CH at Albertson's grocery stores.Gonna have to look next time I get stuck with the shopping and pick up a sampler.

CH is a killer OTC that I always have on hand ! Maybe in time try the SWR again in a cob with filter and with coffee . That combo seems to work very well .

I liked CH from the first bowl. I didn't think I would. I mean common, an OTC that's inexpensive, sold in drug stores and newspaper stands, and smoked in a ridiculous corn cob pipe?!? No way....

Man did I get taken to school there.

Welcome to the club. CH is my mainstay for sure.
I can't find the tubs locally here either, pretty sure Doug has that market all wrapped up! I did ask at the Smoker Friendly near my house and they can order in the pouches but the tub isn't available on their order form. Oh well, pouches it is.

Welcome to the CH fan club...it's an inexpensive no BS tobacco...I always have a pouch on hand. Probably pick up a tub after my current pouch (if of course DGE will allow it)
