Just scored an old 1.5 ounce tin from the auction site. Seal is intact but looks like a bit of surface rust. Will post pics and review once I receive it.

    Well here is the tin....

And a few shots of the tobacco...in excellent well aged condition...

    Flake carefully extracted from tin...

I rubbed this ancient slice and carefully filled it into a 1937 Flame Grain Kaywoodie:

First impression after charring light was of fine old burley with this mellow sweetness that I have never before experienced. Really high quality leaf and not a hint of bite whatsoever. Room note was fantastic and I didn't want the smoke to end. Got down to the bottom of the bowl and was in a state of bliss. Now I know what the old timers were raving about. Why can't they make this kind of tobacco anymore? Oh well, at least I have a full tin to slowly savor over the years. If you can find any I strongly recommend picking some up. Those Larus brothers in Richmond really knew what they were doing!

Thanks, gents. Sorry for the lookey-what-I-got thing but I figured that it was such a rarity that it warranted posting. I really wish that Russ or Tad Gage or McClellands would come up with a suitable replacement for this classic blend.

Vicarious enjoyment. It's good to share. If you can get more and sharper photos before the tobacco is all gone you ought to. Doesn't seem to be an experience that will be easily replicated.
