Oh yes - Thursday's the day our American chums celebrate us Brits graciously allowing them their independence. Happy Independence day in advance!

Fire up that radio and we'll have a good old fashioned rag chew!
I don't think we could to it on 2 meters! 6 meters? All I've got right now is the little Yaesu tri-bander HT with portable antenna. Might be getting a Yaesu mobile multi-band up to 40 meters with self-tuning antenna that might do the trick, but that's still in the works.

Yeah might be difficult on 2 or 6, hope you get that Yaesu!
What is your license class, I'm an Extra (not bragging, just saying) ;)

General for now. I suppose I should work on my Extra book this summer. I had started but sort of lost interest after my ham friend (who gave me the HT) passed away last summer. It's actually his mobile I might be acquiring soon since his widow is selling the Jeep it is currently installed in. He had just got the W1ME call sign he so coveted. I just haven't had much inclination to get on the air since his untimely passing (motorcycle accident). Sorry to be a downer!

No problem, talking helps.
Well if you get the inkling to get back into Ham Radio let me know. Been doing it for 21 years and love it.

Oh, yes, I still have the interest. I got my Tech Plus 20-odd years ago. Upgraded to General a few years ago with my friend's prodding. We did the Maine field-days and ham fests and all that. I've never done any long distance work, mostly just working 2 meters. Maine has lots of history--we had planned to visit the site of the old 9 mile long Beverage antenna in Belfast that RCA had put up and were going to put up a long wire at his camp in Houlton.

That would have been awesome!
You guys in New England have a lot more U\VHF activity than here in SW Ohio, here it's mostly mindless chatter on repeaters. 2M repeaters are the Hookahs of Ham Radio around here.

Ha ha, well, I guess it's not quite so bad here. 2 meters isn't quite like CB yet. I still remember when you needed a call sign for CB. Ours was KANK0616 (the useless stuff stored in my brain! Of course I can't remember stuff I need to any more). Dad always had Viking CB equipment. Wish I still had the 4 crystal tube set of his I used to play with when I was a kid.
