Hey folks. Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been around here much lately. (Or not :D) I did a bit of traveling to visit some family on the west coast. Anyhow, one of the stops was my late grandparent's house. It was strange being in that home that I spent so much time in as a kid without my grandparents being there.

Anyhow, my aunt and cousin ran across a couple of my Grandpa's old pipes when they were going through things. I have only cleaned up this one, I'll share the other later.

    Nothing fancy, an old Medico.

I need to ask my Dad if he knows what Grandpa used to smoke. If I can't find out, I'm just gonna smoke what I feel like smoking. :)

Great pipe! I think it is great to have a tangible object that connects us with our loved ones. I wish my grandpa had kept his pipes so I could have that connection to him and the past.

Very nice, classic shape there. Cleaned up well. With any luck somebody will stumble across an old pack of tobacco or some such :)

That's exactly how I feel about this. I also brought home his old Gilette DE razor. I'll post that in another thread.

For clean up on this, I just gave the bowl a salt treatment, wiped the stem out with a pipe cleaner and everclear, and polished up the rest with some spit and a washcloth.

I'm sure he'd be delighted that you've chosen this as a remembrance of him.

Are you a DE or straight razor shaver?

I am currently a *gasp* wet-shave with a cartridge shaver, dabbling with DE.

I still have a generous number of cartridges from the last stock up run. Thought about pawning them off on a friend, but it is nice for an occasional rushed morning. I'm never too rushed, though, to not use proper shave soap. Makes a big difference, definitely. (and now that I'm looking at your picture on the laptop instead of on my phone I do seem to remember a brief exchange in the shaving sub-forum) :D

Yeah , but what a Medico that is !! It's really special to have a family members pipe . Take good care of it and maybe your grand kid will smoke it and think of you . I have some of my Uncles pipes . When I smoke thm I always think of him ... it's very cool

Doesn't matter how fancy the pipe or maker when it's been smoked by your Grandfather. Great stuff.
