...well, not really. I lit up a bowl of PS Balkan Supreme the other day, and noticed something; I could taste the Latakia, and the Orientals, but the cavandish was nowhere to be found. Ive smoked some other things since then, and have come to the conclusion that I cannot taste any of the sweetnotes of any of my tobaccos...I reckon I need to cut back a bit, but I find it annoying...

Anyone ever have something like this happen? Keep in mind, I am not freaking out or anything. Its just frustrating because I like smoking a pipe, but I feel like I am missing out big time since I cant taste...

See a dentist or doctor. Or if your going private an ENT specialist.

In my most authoritative voice: "Sir, step away from the pipe tobacco and no one gets hurt." Could you be smoking too much?

I find that when I smoke too much, my taste buds get burned out. When my taste buds are spent, I can no longer taste subtle (and even unsubtle) nuances in pipe tobacco. Each person's level of tolerance is different, obviously. I'm a light weight. More than two bowls in a day for me is taste bud suicide. Anything beyond that and I could not tell much difference between Borkum Riff and Escudo. There are many here who smoke several more bowlfuls per day than I can handle with no ill effects. But likely everyone has a point at which their taste buds rebel.

OTOH, it sounds like your taste buds are noticing flavors, just not sweet flavors. So maybe your problem is not related to taste bud assault after all. Try a different blend or a different pipe.

Heres a bit of an update: the last few days, Ive changed up my smoking style a bit. I used to "chug" the smoke...now I "sip" the smoke. I also noticed that my mouth has felt dryer than usual. I think I was just smoking too hard, too much. Since cutting down a bowl, and sipping the smoke, my taste has improved. Ive also noticed my pipes are as hot to the touch. I feel kind of ashamed about it, really. I am starting to taste the sweetness in tobaccos again. Ive learned much from this experience...

I've had a similar problem and my Doc keeps telling me to see a dentist. Problem is I hate, I really hate, going to a dentist.

I've been known to smoke like a chimney on occasion, and that will definitely lay a hurtin' on your mouth/taste buds. Sippin' is good and, while I find that it leads to more relights (at least for me), it not only helps my mouth/tongue but it also allows me to taste things in tobacco that I don't notice when I smoke too aggressively.

Definitely. Half and Half is a good example. Some people say it tastes horrible, but I suspect they are smoking it too hard. It gets harsh when you do that. A light sip draw will impart the flavor that those of use in the know enjoy...
