I have one just like the one on the right. I bought it back in the late 70's or early 80's. I love it.

:drly: Wow. It's a shame that they don't make pipes like that anymore. I'd be on one of those like stink on **** (I played tenor and baritone sax back in the day, so the shape is :hbang: to me).

Yessir, I could own a few more Grabows if they were that pretty. Thanks for posting, Ted.

Nice pipes, but I'm a bit confused; are Alphas made by Dr Grabow? I thought they were Israeli made.
Also, just what the heck is PCNC!?!?

Joe, these were made by the Shalom factory in Tel Aviv. Sparta made their own version of the Alpha after Shalom went out of business.

PCNC is Piney Creek, North Carolina..

Thanks! I have several Alpha pipes. How can one tell if they are Shalom or Sparta?

Alpha Israel will be stamped "israel" on the shank or the stem. Alpha Sparta will have no such stamping.

Both the Israeli and the Sparta's are OUTSTANDING.
I just bought and sold 24 Sparta Alphas last year.
Since I worked with Mastercraft (the importer of Shalom) for almost 10 years... I have a certain affliction for the later Shalom Alphas.. Of course, another few years with Grabow made me appreciate our version of the Alpha also.

I have 4 Israeli Alpha's and 3 Sparta Alpha's in my rotation of 49 pipes. Not a loser in the crowd.... ted

I'm am coming more and more to appreciate Dr. Grabow pipes. They seem ubiquitous now, but they made quite a few beauties back in the day, it seems.
