I just bought an ounce of pure latakia to try a little blending of my own. I had of course read about it as a component of many English blends but never seen, or smelt it before. This stuff is black as night and even though it was only 1 0unce in a sealed zip lock it has my whole bag smelling like it had survived a wildfire! I am pretty excited to try some blending and see what it does to some cheap drugstore blends. So now down to the point: does anyone know how it is prepared. I assume that color and smell has to be a process and not how the toby naturally looks and smells. So how do they do it?
