    I have a few of these, they keep popping off.
    The tabs that hold it in the bowl lack enough friction, and flex too much.

    Given that your pipe is an obvious cob it is either an eye sight issue or he's playing with your mind. Verily it is true that B&M stores tend to really dislike cobs as they are a cheap alternative to what they sell. That's why if they sell cobs it will almost always be the legend, because it is so small. they know a relatively new piper is going to come back for a pipe with a larger bowl before long.
