Oscar wouldn't use a filter.
Felix would change it after every smoke.
Oscar would have a beat up old Dr. Grabow with a cracked stem.
Felix would have a pristine white meerschaum and wear gloves when he smoked it.
Oscar would have the bits chewed half off....
Felix would have a new softie bit for each smoke....
.....they already do smoke pipes.....but these days are AKA 'Yinyang' and 'Puff the magic'
Felix would be so concerned about the dangers of 9th-hand smoke, he wouldn't dare!
That is how I imagine it!
never mind them smoking pipes!.....these days it's a wonder they are not depicted as gay - and about to marry!
Unfortunately, Felix was a complete nutbag about tobacco smoke.
Felix would probably bleach and machine wash his pipes AND cleaners after each smoke!!!! IF he smoked, that is...
Oscar would have put cigar butts in his pipe to smoke
Felix would have collected them , dust them everyday .. but not smoke them
Felix would be such a twit he would want to wash Oscars' bent billiard Pete and insist on buying him some over done cherry blend for a birthday, complaining it would smell better IF Oscar "simply must smoke in the house". No, on second thought, Felix would fill the apartment with those pine tree air rapers. Whilst Oscar would insist on smoking Brown Twist or Black Rope XXX and blow the smoke in the face of Felix, at every opportunity.
Of course, Felix would eventually toss Oscars' briars into the dish washer with a strong flower scented detergent, before the show suddenly ended with a terrible beating dished out by an enraged Oscar.
Actually, I can easily imagine Felix smoking a pipe. He'd smoke them just SO he could clean them. He loved cleaning things; he just hated his inability to instill this trait in others.
That said, I can picture it from Jack Lemon more than from Randall, especially if you add a Pidgeon Sister or two.
It's Oscar that I find harder to picture. The cigar is just so suited to him and his personality--especially then, before the cigar boom of the 90s, when they generally denoted commoness (at best).
I agree, whole heartedly. At the time, the cigar was perfect for the character. The rough masculine working class guy with the stogie was an iconic image. The pipe was for a 'gentleman', a middle class 'dad', all wisdom and wise authority.
OK, if Felix smoked a pipe I think it was an ebony prince with an ivory and silver ring. And he smoked it from the front of his mouth looking very pleased with himself.
Felix. "Are you going to smoke that wretched excrement again?"
Oscar. "Yes, and I've something right here you can smoke"!
When not in use, Oscar's pipe would be on the floor or table with tobacco and ash spilling out.
Felix would have a pipe rack and a pipe cozy over it.
Oscar....a pile of chewed up Kaywoodies and Grabows.
Felix....one pristine Dunhill with silver filigree and a custom case.
I agree with what Oscar would have but, definitely rhinestones on Felix's Dunhill.
