I can honestly say that is the most impressive collection of pipes in one person's house I've seen without actually knowing the guy. Whoever he was, he sure spent some time on that!

It's also proof positive that some people don't have a clue what they've got - I can tell by casual glance that most of them aren't just low end pipes - there's probably some great stuff in there - if only they had the knowledge of how to properly price and liquidate a collection like that. But to leave it wide open for the picking like that - I can only imagine what a cluster that's gonna be to go through it all

    Edit:

I called the number and they are going to sell each pipe individually, priced individually... there was a person who (I'm being diplomatic here) has very little knowledge of pipes who answered, and said that she has already turned down offers for the entire collection for one price (I think I know a few suspects who that might have offered that). I asked how specifically she is going to price each pipe, and she said she's going to have to start researching them and will price each based on her research.

    By Wednesday.

Not just the pipes, there are some very nice pieces there. If someone doesn't show up from Sotheby's to buy I'd be very surprised.

If she doesn't base everything off ebay prices...there might be some good deals there. Of course that's where most of them are going to end up anyways.

Good luck to her on finding prices for all of those. I doubt there's enough time in the next few days to accomplish that. There are a LOT of pipes there.

I saw that. I've never seen a black Shillelagh. Is that a Dunhill adjacent to the horse biting the arse of the angel figurine?

It's Newark. Mona Lisa could be hanging on the wall, you're still not getting me to Newark.

I agree about Newark. I worked there for several years. Dismal and dangerous place. That dude sure did have a lot of pipes.

Look's like he has a ton of nice stuff.. I'm guessing he was a doctor from the mentions of a lot of medical books. another good reason to keep a detailed inventory of what you got so your next of kin don't get ripped off.

Dammit Berg. I had this great line, something about, "Well, I think I can safely say that this is the first time I've ever wished I lived in Newark." Well, maybe it wasn't that great a line, but you still struck first. You witty sumbitch.
