Not long after discovering how much I enjoy cobs, and learned to even admire their asthetic side, some PSF cobber posted a picture of a Jake Hackert customized cob. I was pretty nuts over it's rustic, rugged good looks. I wanted one. Then I found how hard it was to find one. I looked off and on for a couple of years, but never found a new, unsmoked one to purchase. I was always a little late for an eBay one, and any sites I found with one were marked "SOLD". For the past year, I've pretty much given up, consoling myself with the fact that I have a nice cob collection, including some vintage, unsmoked cobs with interesting character. A couple of weeks ago, AussieTX asked for my address. Typically I would ask what for, but I figured he was going to send either A) a sample of tobacco or B) some type of gag gift. Yes, he has a big sense of humor, so I wasn't putting it past him. I got home from work a week ago Tuesday, and my wife handed me a smallish brown box. I saw the familiar sender's name, and whipped out my pocket knife. I told the boys to stand back, in case something flew out of the box. Instead of a gag, I was surprised to find a freakin' Jake Hackert cob! Unbelievable, and totally unexpected. I love the looks, and it smokes fabulous too. No burning wood taste, as the shank is antler. It also has a nice heft to it compared to a normal cob, but still plenty light to clench. The stem is very comfy and well shaped. I can't say enough about how excited I am to have this pipe in the collection! Thanks Aussie!
