I found it in the trunk of a car I bought used back in the 90's. It was crusty and dirty, but I thought it was neat, so I cleaned it up and have kept it on a shelf since. It has a fairly bright light when the battery is new.

I'm really liking the idea of a very large cabinet with tobbaco and pipe storage / display !!! Yours has given me an idea :ngty: I just dont have room for it . I'd like something like this with a few drawers and on legs but I have a small home and it's already filled up . I see it in Walnut . Damn , I need a bigger home

If you have a bedroom you could turn into an office... you could convert the closet into a desk and cabinet combo. Or, if you have room suitable for pipe stuff that has an armoire, chest or table against the wall... ditch the furniture and cut a hole in the wall for your built in.

Yo brad! Smile when you say "or 400 pipes and 400 lbs of tobacco". You been hanging around the Morley's Club? So what's wrong with being an amasser? (If I were organized, I might confuse myself for a collector).

I wouldn't know what to do with 400 pipes, but will admit I have more pipes than I need, and still would like a few more. :) (smile #1) For some reason, my TAD is much stronger, and I actually could see buying and storing 400 lbs of my favorite tobaccos! :beck: (smile #2) I don't know. I think it would be fun to have 400 lbs of killer leaf. I could share it, trade it, hoard it, and smoke it until I kick the bucket. If I had pipes growing on a tree in my back yard, I'd probably get to 35 - 40 favorites and then send the other pipes to friends and PSFers that were either new to smoking or didn't have the chance to commission a nice briar.

Yeah....go ahead and tell 'em how much of that is actually yours. :whis: Depraved may be a more accurate term.

Thanks! It's not inset at all, it's a rack I actually purchased on ebay from the user giusseppe2012. I bolted it into the wall studs in my office.

Question - is it better to sit the pipe in the rack or hang it upside down?

I've always sat my pipes in racks, I can't speak for hanging them.

You will come across pipe smokers that will fight to the death over this question (it ain't pretty). Myself, I don't think there's two cents difference.

I see you've left room for expansion. Good move.
Agreed. I store my pipes both ways and have never noticed any difference in the way they smoke.

What I am trying to deke out is a place for tobacco and pipes AND all the fly-tying supplies (and reels and rods) in my office. Looks like I am going to start taking books to used bookstore and thinning out back issues of fly-tying magazines since I can find most of that info on the web. That should give me room for tins and pipe racks. Happy New Year to all!
