Besides the Wikipedia description of Latakia, I was wondering what the "pros" here can tell me about it.
Is it primarily used in English blends? Or does it come into play in many kinds of blends?
    Can you buy straight Latakia?
    Can you smoke Latakia straight?
Has anyone here ever done so (if you can)?
Just curious on everyone's info and takes on this.
    Thanks in advance.

Latakia is a "condiment" tobacco added to blends for distinctive flavors. I don't think it would be pleasant to smoke straight Lat, but some here may disagree with that stance....

It is possible to buy straight latakia - 4noggins has some, to be exact - but I've never done it, and I never intend to.

Agree w/Jesla. Yes, you can, yes you should, yes I have. Yes it's good. Very smooth and just a tiny bit sharp if it's fresh. Like a tire-fire but in a good way.

I totally agree Perique can be a toughy sometimes, though it's better cut with other things.

I'm talking 'McClelland's Rose of Latakia' for smoking*

    ....and'McClelland Blending Perique' for blending/smoking*

*at your own risk and in no way suggesting that anyone should smoke.

I have a few oz of Syrian Lat...have smoked it straight. Almost no nic hit from this, but a very strong "smoke-house" flavor. Not something I would do often...more just to show off. Try it! LOL

    Hi Mington.
All information given is accurate. If you're wondering if you'll like it, I'll add this. If you like the smell of the campfire you'll like Latakia. I remember Fall days in the small rural town where I was born. People would rake the leafs from their lawns to the ditch in front of their houses and then burn them. That smell, on a cool crisp day in October, is something I never forgot. Sometimes, when I smoke a blend with Latakia, I remember those days.
    Be well.
    Ol Brokedik.

Latakia is commonly a condimental tobacco. It has a very low nicotene content, and is not strong, but in it's best forms is quite pungent. It has a smokey campfire aroma and taste, and expect it could be easily smoked straight, although I have never done it.
