Can someone tell me where I can get a stem like this one? Notice the taper where it goes into the shank. Kind of universal fit.

Tim West (JHLowe) or Dave Walker (Walker Briar Works). Not sure if Dave is still doing repairs (*he says he's not, but that might have been for the wife).

It'd be easier to just send in the pipe ($25 for replacement stems, generally).

Yep. Those are exactly what I am looking for. But I don't want to purchase that many or from Europe. Kind of want an easier purchase. Hell, I can't event tell how much he wants.

Pipes&Cigars has 2 different Nording replacement stems listed that are very similar to the ones originally posted. You'll find them listed under Nording pipes. Both are out of stock at the moment.

What this guy said, if you want it to fit right just send it off or swing by a local tobacco shop, some may do the work. My buddy needed a new CW stem and the shop by me only charged $25. What pipe is the new stem for?

The beauty is that the stem, because of the tapered end, will fit most pipes that do not have a large bore shank. I buy a lot of estate pipes and find that they work well if I need to replace a stem. Right now the one that I have gets swapped between 4 different pipes. I would prefer to leave it in place on one pipe and have a stock of them for when I need them. The ones that I have seen online don't taper so is not what I am looking for.

Thanks for everyone's help. I appreciate it. Man do I love this forum. :gjob:

Unfortunately the Nording bits don't taper.

My bad, I was thinking they tapered slightly. At http://www.pipemakers.org/ they have quite a selection of replacement stems, including several tapered

I use pipemakers.org as well, if you give them a call I bet they can find exactly what you need.

The follow-up announcement was that Walker Pipe Repair was taking over the majority of the repair work, but I do think Dave is still selling stems and estates and such.
