I want to like this, I really do. But it just has a certain sharpness that I don't care for. While I like the sweetness of the rum I am looking for something with more of a round, mellow richness.

Try a different pipe maybe if you got one? I like it a lot.
What other Navy Flakes have you tried or do you like.
You might like Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake.

Have you tried PS LNF? That sounds more like what you are looking for.

I'd say head in a direction like Orlike Golden Sliced. Same creamy goodness, but none of the peppery cavendish component.
McClelland's "Navy Cavendish" is really good too.

McClelland's Navy Cavendish is my favorite of all the Navy type flakes. High quality Va with that rum thing going on. JMHO

Not too familiar with tobaccos that are not defined as "Drug store blends"

No, I'm almost done with the tin, actually.

Ah, good tip. I have tried it in a couple of other pipes and not noticed the sharpness as much. And, it's the only NF that I've tried thus far.

I'll try McClelland's when I get the chance. I have 6 samples arrive from Milan Tobacconists today so McC is going to have to wait a bit. :sh:

    Thanks, everyone, for the replies!

Well then ... it's not for you . Often times people smoke a bowl and give a blend a ya or nay . I always poke my head in and say make sure you give a blend a tin or pouch [ unless it's really bad ] before making up yer mind about it . Jesco is probably spot on ... the PS LNF is an easy going Navy Flake . I cant see anyone thinking it's sharp or strong or whatever . I like smoking Flakes in a pot shape ... maybe try that , or as Ming said , another pipe for sure

Yeah, I think that bowl shape has more of an effect/influence than I thought because over the past couple of weeks I have smoked it a few times and was surprised by how much I was enjoying it. I will have to go back to those pipes again. But, I DO want to try the PS LNF when I get a chance. I just don't have any access to it locally and will need to include it in a larger order whenever that might be.

I think it's time for a healthy dose of intollerance here at PSF: MacB Navy Flake having a "certain sharpness" - you speak heresay, Sir, pure heresay! I banish thee to the seventh level of hay-deez where the B&M's only stock Chinese cobs and Paladin!! At least I think it's the seventh level... those medievil paintings are a bit fuzzy, and Dante and Milton kind of ramble a bit.

Seriously, sorry you didn't like it. Have you tried the MacB Mixture Flake? I think it's kind of similar to the Navy Flake, but with a richer flavor. To me, it's like they took their basic Navy Flake recipe and then added more Virginias to it.
