    Greetings,

I recently purchased my first estate pipe - a lovely freehand briar with a sandblast finish. I love the way it looks and feels in my hand and it smokes nicely, albeit a little wet (it gurgles some when I get about halfway down the bowl). On the top of the shank there is a stamp that says "MV" and underneath it says "Monte Verdi, Made In Denmark, By Hand, Twin Finish".

Does anyone have any info on this pipe? I am just curious about this pipe and the maker. I have links to photos below. Thanks in advance for any info anyone may have.

    Blessings,

    Brian

From what I can see in the picture it looks textured and very freakin cool ! Nice score ! Sorry I dont know about the maker though it looks like what was popular during the freehand boom years ... ala .. Ben wade and P.H. and the like

Jp, I think you and Ruff are spot on. All I have found on "Monte Verdi" is a tie in with Preben Holm, who is also linked with the Ben Wade pipes. Now I know nothing about Holm, Ben Wade, etc. at this point. All I know is that they are some really pretty pipes. So, I'm pretty happy.

One question, though: jp you mention they are "seconds". What make them seconds?

Don't let the "seconds" label throw you off. I have a few Stanwell seconds that are superb smoking pipes. Your piece looks cool, very much in the vein of Ben Wade/Preben Holm Danish craftsmanship....congrats! Smoke it in good health.

Thanks t-bear, I will. I really like the feel. The only part that bothers me is the gurgle, but I know that's pretty common. I have read about opening up the draw hole with a drill bit by hand. Any thoughts on that?
