Oh, isn't it just beautiful! My package from P&C arrived a day ahead of schedule and I was thrilled to crack it open just now. I've been adoring some of the new Newminster blends. A friend and I split 8 oz of the Ultimate English, of which my half came from him yesterday and it sounds like we both have already enjoyed it very much. Today I got a pound of my favorite -- their Superior Navy Flake. It's all packed so neat and tidy and gorgeous. I almost don't want to divvy it up into jars, but I know have to! I'm also giving their Superior Round Slices a taste (since it and the SNF were both on sale for an extra 13% off), and had four ounces of that in today's package.

Of course they went and added that $1 shipping sale for today, so I, too, may have to go back and add a tin or two of some new things to try. Like I need it >.>

I couldn't resist that one dollar shipping. I picked up 3 blends. So the Newminster blends are worth a try?

In short: I've really enjoyed the SNF, the Straight VA is quite pleasant (though I've had little else for comparison), the aros seem fantastic but a bit too sweet for my taste, and jury is still out on the Ultimate English -- it's VERY English and seems nice, but the pipe I tried it in last night isn't broken in much yet so the flavor was off a bit. I posted more in this thread that nobody responded to... so maybe I'm the only one here trying them :D

So the SNF ranks up there for you as far as "Navy" blends go?

I have, thus far, tried Stokkebye LNF, Escudo Navy Deluxe, and SNF. The Newminster has been my personal favorite, though my technique has improved by leaps and bounds lately (probably because I've been "practicing" more) and I want to revisit the other two before making a final judgement call. Definitely a fine smoke IMHO, though.

Isn't the Newminster line somehow connected with Stokkebye?

    Courtesy of P&C...

"Since the Peter Stokkebye tobaccos are now being produced and distributed by a new company the great folks over there at Villiger have spent much time and effort bringing back the most popular blends from their line. Now produced by Macbaren these aptly named Newminster blends have passed all the initial tests we've put them through for quality, taste, and character. Newminster pipe tobacco is a line that you will enjoy!"

Holy crap, 28 bucks a pound! I might have to learn to like it! I've got 20 ounces of the non-aro's on the way, with $1 shipping!

Yeah, and this week they had an extra 13% off the SNF and the Sup Round Slices as well -- hence the stock up!

And that is one of the reasons that I love flakes so much. They almost look edible. Plus I love the prep process almost as much as the smoking.
