I posted this over in "latest pipe smoking purchases," but thought I'd add it here to show off two new brands I'm guessing many aren't familiar with. While on our trip to Europe, I tried finding a relatively "local" brand of pipe in each country (France, Spain, & Austria). My French pipe ended up being a BC, but the other two I'd not heard of before. Sigmund pipes were made just an hour or two away from where we were in Barcelona, Spain. Their pipes ran mostly in the 50-100 Euros range and many of them seemed quite exceptional -- quite a value at that price IMHO! I got myself a tulip/horn sort of shape. I was leaning towards a similarly shaped sitter, but the grain on this one was quite exceptional. Kemperling pipes were one of two Austrian makers I found, but this one was much more in my budget (again 50-100 Euros). The other did look quite nice, but not nice enough for the 200+ Euro price tags. I was tempted by a round pot of sorts with both short and longs stems, but the stem fit to a 9mm filter pipe was just way too bulky to look elegant in churchwarden length. I instead went with a lovely bent brandy.
