I'm curious to know what the attraction is surrounding "nose warmers". Seems like they are gaining popularity. Do they smoke better, or is this just a passing fad?

I'm not sure it can be considered a fad, as they have been around for decades(if not centuries) but the biggest attraction of the shape(to me at least) is the maneuverability and the ease of clenching. The draw back is smoke in the eyes! lol

I like them on several levels. Not sure if they smoke better, each will have their own opinion. Surprisingly, to me anyhow, is that the smoke coming in your mouth is not noticeably hotter than a regular length pipe. A lot of my work involves me in the back of a box truck pulling orders. The nw's stay out of the way. Several people say they like them because when they go to look out the car window they don't smack the pipe up against the window. Also, if you are reading or doing office work (My office is in my house so I can smoke there) they are pretty much out of your field of vision. Some have said they like them because they can stick them in their pocket with less worry of snapping the tenon. There are a few reasons some of us like them. I'm sure there are more.

I never would have considered one, if I hadn't won Nate's contest poker, which is a nosewarmer. Its just a great pipe at under 1 ounce, can easily burn 45 minutes to 1 hour, super comfy to clench, looks good, can't be beat for portability during travel. Where I was closed minded before, I'm definitely open to now...

I thus far only have one - out 2012 POY - and I do like the clenchability. Being a shorter "lever" as it were the weight (which isn't much to begin with) is incredibly easy on the jaw.

I might have to unchain my wallet and try one. Maybe one of Erwin's cobs would be a good starter?

What means Windows? I kicked them to the curb years ago. Ubuntu rocks.

I've got a warmer that I got from Thomas James. It's probably my favorite pipe and my best VA smoker for sure.
