I was tempted, but I've never smoked HV, and from the sound of it it's pretty bright/light. I'm not opposed to that, and I'm sure it's good stuff, but I just kind of prefer fuller bodied VAs, so I figured I'd leave it to the people who know and love it.

I AM tempted by some of the other stuff they've got back in stock from DAN though....but then I'd spend too much, to get free shipping, etc.

It's wispy, thin-smoked crap Nesta. Really. I only smoke it because I like the tin label, and it comes from Germany. I got a tin of Patriot Flake too. It's actually been harder for me to find than the HV. I've never tried it, but it sounds good. That HV stuff is just so wimpy- bah! :whis:

haha....I figure if I don't know what I'm missing, I won't miss it! I'm planning on stopping by my Ohio B&M tomorrow though, picking up another Viking possibly. If they have it there (they do carry some Dan blends) I might pick up a tin or two. More likely I'll get some of a house blend and some rope or plug that sounds good though :)

Strange, that I ordered a pound each from Pipes and Cigars, and SmokingPipes on the same day. The SmokingPipes order came in this past Wednesday, while the P&C order has not arrived. I checked UPS status and is has an estimated delivery date of 12/27? With a 12/14 order date? What in the... :msty:

Me thinks some UPS employee sniffed out my HV, malty VA goodness and pinched a bowl or two for himself. I'll be checking those bags for duct tape covered holes. :old:

Got two tins of HV from smoking pipes when it was in stock. I don't know how long I will be able to hold out on opening one. :beyes:

Brad, your the first person I've seen refer to a malt rather than grassy taste from a Virginia.
Malt is exactly what I've gotten from most Va's. The only time I've noted a grassy taste or note has been from snuff.

It has a little bit of a grassy look when you break up a flake. Maybe even a hint of grassy smell in the tin when it starts getting a little dried out. I don't get any grassyness at all when smoking it though. To me, it's like malt and molassys, and is why I like it so much. :bing:

    And again, molasses.
Always wished I could express my thoughts. Good you and others are around do so for me!

Anyone here compared HV with Altadis 507c Va Slices?
I have and for considerable less coin the 507c is awfully darn close in all respects to HV. Right down to the "malt and molassys"!

Pipes and Cigars is the only place I've found so far.
During the last really prolonged HV shortage I asked around about substitutes. Russ Oulette responded with the suggestion of the 507c and it has been a winner for me!

Just checked and yep, still in stock at $36.54 a pound. Considerable less coinage.
