Is it safe to use grain alcohol to clean and sanitize the plastic stem on a Grabow Omega, or will that melt the plastic?

Not sure what material your stem is made from, but I've used Everclear (pure grain alcohol) to clean both vulcanite and lucite stems with no problems.

Hmm. No, I think you should be fine. I believe I've used alcohol on a plastic Grabow stem before with no problems. Aren't the alcohol bottles usually plastic??

Just don't soak it for a long time if there are painted logos etc., wiping it down should be fine. I've had some stem cleaning issues involving alcohol that caused a pipe stem to fly across the room; but I was using the alcohol as an internal solvent:) -David
