As to the pipe: Yepp its gorgeous and elegant. I don't quite get that part where it says
'mammoth ivory'. Does that mean that the insert is really made of mammoth ivory
(quite possible as there is no lack in mammoth fossiles) or is it just a description of the
kind of coloured briar he used as insert? :cfsd:

As to the price: Well - I myself would buy 3-4 really good calabash pipes with big bowls and
    meerschaum inserts for the money...

Not fossils from the mammoth, but the preserved tusks. The ivory. Actual ivory, but from an extinct animal. There is mastadon ivory out there, too. More often used in jewelry if I'm not mistaken, but they show up on super high-end pipes sometimes (since regular ivory is illegal to trade)

Yepp - that's what I meant - tusks (plz excuse my poor english). But mammoth
tusks do not have the properties of solid block meerschaum - do they...:cfsd:

    Sure looks nice though... :)

Yepp - in jewelry one encounters mammoth tusk, petrified wood,
little fossiles as well as slices from meteroites etc. occasionally -
    and that's cool.

But it's not (I know that I'm sounding snobbish...;)) real jewelry.

No, I don't believe ivory is like meerschaum - except in color. But it is only used for the band on that pipe. It's not like the meerschaum chamber insert for some traditional calabash pipes - this pipe's chamber is all briar.
