    He did, and wrote several books that I devoured as a 10 yo boy. Good times!

    I love McManus!!! My grandad has all of his books and I have read almost all of them at one time or another. I used to love his column at the back of Field and Stream. I remember this story from years ago. Thanks for the memory. I already have the pipe, now I just need to work on my two expressions!

    McManus is a great writer. I think the F&S collumn he took over was the one Ed Zuern used to write.
    I sort of identify with his boyhood mentor "Rancid Crabtree".

    I read "They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?" and one or two or his other books. I gotta order those. I'm trying to teach myself to be funny without cussing so much.
