Lets hit a bit of each "type"

FMOTT - Frog Morton on the Town << good english / areo crossover >>
PS LTF - Stokkebye Luxury Twist Flake (bulk) << Va blend >>
PS LBF - Stokkebye Luxury Bullseys Flake (bulk) << VaPer w/ Cavendish >>
WOL OF - WO Larsen Old Fashioned << quality light aero >>
    5100 - McClelland 5100 (bulk) << awesome VA >>

You can't go wrong with Rugs selections, but if you don't like the taste of marshmallows you may want to substitute regular Frog Morton.

Great suggestions. I have not tried FMOTT but I have all the rest and highly recommend all three of the Stokkebye Luxury Flakes and the 5100. 5100, Twist and Bullseye are three to try for sure. Twist Flake is one of my favorites.

    Other good ones are...

    Westminster- English
    Orlik Golden Sliced- Virginia
    McClelland 2015- VaPer
    Stokkebye Balkan Supreme
    Escudo- VaPer
    MacB Burley London Blend

    Also worth trying-
    MacB Club Blend and/or Mixture
    MacB Navy Flake
    Erinmore Flake

    Very good recommendations so far.

I would add McClelland Jubilee. It's ridiculously good.

A.J.'s Vaper from pipesandcigars - Virginia, Perique and Black Cavendish.......... ;)
Red Cake from McClelland- Red Virginias.... Delicious.
Fillmore from G.L.Pease - It's a VaPer with a very small amount of Latakia.... :velho:
Samarra from G.L. Pease - Medium English/Balken- Moderate amount of Latakia (This blend reminds me of Sweet & Spicy Beef Jerky) Outstanding Winter smoke! :)

Solani Aged Burley Flake - So far the only Burley that I might buy again.

6 ....Sorry........Scottish Cake from Robert McConnell :) A mixture of Virginia, Perique and Kentucky tobaccos.

Vauen No 16 Virginia flake (no tongue bite at all)

Everything from Sillems especially the black label, it's rather an english but aro lovers tend to like it too, coz of the black cavendish content. Very special, delicious tobacco, i'm sure u'll like it ;-)

nice idea but i have to disagree on tobacco rugs.

Peterson old dublin good intro to "englishes"
Mcleland 5100 seriously great VA, and not too difficult to keep lit
Wessex brigade virginia with perique (nice ready rubbed VAper that smokes easy and isn't too harsh)
Erinmore mixture, bit more aromatic and probably easier for a beginner than the flake
Mac Baren Burley london Blend, good example of the burley, smokes easy, doesnt bite too hard

I tend to agree with Rugs and Glenn...but I'm a yes man. Honestly, do what a lot of guys do...log on to tobaccoreviews...highlight the 4 star rated 'baccy's....choose your poison accordingly. If the tobacco has a high 'hit' count for ratings, and is STILL 4 star, well, you probably won't go too far wrong. My $.02.

Since you're in Massachusetts, I'd suggest a road trip to LJ Piretti just off Boston Common to see and smell what's in their jars in person. I'm a recent FM convert and I like Squadron Leader (okay). Other than that, I've relied on the cranky Yankees at Piretti to steer me right.

Chris, if you're not sure whether or not you like Balkan, I would suggest IRC Balkan Supreme as a good intro.
Get some IRC Buttered Rum while too you're at it https://pipesmokersforum.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/thumbsu.gif

    Dondi,

Wish I had some truly exotic recommendations for ya - I don't. All the tobaccos I have tried and think worthy of suggesting have been mentioned.

Well maybe there's one if you like a looong smooth traditional English blend smoke. Try McClellands 5110, isn't too shabby. Just add it 4 of the others and you're set.
