so a friend who deals in obscenely high end pipes got an alert that a certain individual was offloading his collection for a paltry 20k. yes. you heard me, 20k. dont remember exactly how many pipes, but it equaled out to about 190 per pipe iirc.

any rate, these things are like.. top shelf of high end brands. the collection already sold but it is TOTALLY worth looking at, drooling over, and in the case of a few of us, taking designs from. checkitout!!!

This whole "incident" strikes me as so weird. Dock has spent so much time and so much cash on this, and was just such a passionate pipester... for him to fall of the wagon as it were... I'm just really surprised. But he certainly had some wonderful pieces.

i hate to say something like this but... i suspect medical bills. its the only thing that really makes sense, because this collection is easily worth 50+ so he must need the money NOW, and thats the only thing i could imagine it would be.

either way, you can go ahead and copy all of them for me. yeah. seriously though, you think you can make the melty looking ones on the second to last page or is that plagiarism?

That is such a unique piece, i have never seen anything like it. Perhaps its not plagiarism but creative expansion :thumbsu:

None the less, if i had the ability i would try to recreate something similar to that...truly awesome!

    Hi All,

now that is serious pipe porn! Have never seen a collection like that and it must have taken quite something for the owner to have put it up for sale.

Many thanks to Liam for posting this, will drool over it for years,

    Best to all

    Gerry

Actually Dub, Doc had some kind of mid life crisis @ 33 and decided to give up the pipe in favor of a super healthy lifestyle. He sold off his entire cellar for $8k too.

What an amazing collection. Those melted pipes are amazing. I take it that is more difficult to carve than say a billiard?

Hate to be the negative one here, but we've all had lifestyle changes either forced on or chosen by us. If he didn't immediatly need the money, he's an absolute fool for not seeing the pipes and tobacco for the sure fired investment that they are.

I'm really stunned by the number & quality of the Blowfish designs in that collection! I love 'em, and have yet to own one myself! The drip-lip cannoys are interesting, too.

    :wtf:

Geebus!!!! Some damn nice wood there.

BTW; Got a good laugh from my 72 year old Mother when I told and showed her the type of "porn" I was looking at. :wtf:

Dock explained his then-pending absence as simply a lack of passion about the hobby, and moving in other directions. It happens.

The "melty" ones are Walter Cannoy pipes, iirc.

To me the S Bang is sharper than the rest.

Sas I've been salivating over that S. Bang as well since it was posted.

With regard to this, and its been posted by people elsewhere but if it was me I may sell part of a collection but there is no way I'd get rid of everything like he is. :wtf: But to each their own

I was thinking the exact same thing. The Blowfish is my favorite shape of the moment, and yet most good examples of it are WAY out of my price range.
