Three of them are doing great. The fourth one (wasn't looking so good) is starting to catch up though.

I'm curious at what point I need to think about picking them. They're getting up there in height at the moment. Two of them are about as tall as the deck railing now

This picture is from a couple weeks ago. Sorry about the crappy quality. I shot it through the screen and window. You can tell that they've grown a good bit since the previous picture though. They've grown a good bit since this picture too. I'll snap a better picture this evening.

Here we go. I've got some fresh pictures. I took these this morning.
It's been weeks since I've gotten back there to clean up (obviously:xd: ). I need to get back there this weekend and take care of that.

To think that the Lego man once stood so tall among the tobacco plants...

WOW they are huge! I was reading one of the other threads...do you have to wait until they flow to pic the leaves or do you wait for the flowering and then the dried flowers would have more seeds for you to plant next year?

They sure look good though! Um....the weeds look like they are thriving too :D

That's just it...I'm not sure. I'm hoping that they'll flower so that I can get the seeds for next year.

Why it won't flowering? The plants are healthy, so you will get flower like other plants, I think but I don't know the weather in your country.
    Keep posting.

Thanks for the updates and photos bubba. Those plants are really coming along. I think you will have a crop of leaves for drying before long.

I'm not sure on the lack of flowering. I'm in Virginia. This place has prime tobacco growing weather. I think I'll probably give them a few more weeks and if I don't see flowers...hang the leaves up.

:xd: Well, the plant bed looks super!!!! Maybe you should let the Canadian Mist motivate you more often! I'm sure there is a "Honey Do" list laying around the house somewhere !

Oh, I see. I never been in your country and I don't know about the weather there (it's so big) but Virginia seem to be a good state to grow tobacco, isn't it?
Do you know which variety did you have (I read you have different strain).

Well....any takers on whether I should go ahead and cut the leaves and string them up? I was hoping that the plants would flower, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I think it's Virginia Gold. I started my seeds in one tray (three different types) and accidentally rotated it at one point and lost track which was which. :(

My opinion as a veggie and other gardener....you may want to give them more time to flower. Is there any sign of stemming in the middle of the plant? Kinda like a little nub (oh, I could do so much with that but I will heed my Mom's many MANY warnings to remember my ladyship!"

Nope. I moved the leaves around up top to see if something was popping out, but that wasn't the case. My problem is that I plan on just hanging them up and air drying them in the garage (suburban tobacco barn, lol). If I wait much longer, I'm going to completely miss the summer heat to help dry things out.

Well...I went ahead and chopped them down this evening. I rinsed the leaves off on the driveway to get any crap (i.e. dirt, bugs, etc.) off them.

Here's the pile of leaves that I ended up with.

I need to come up with a more permanent solution for storing/drying them, lol.
