So I just wanted to see what everyone thought. I'm new to pipe smoking so I was curious if they were good buys for the price and if there are any imperfections (I'm aware of a couple on the MV & Author already; are they significant). What could I learn from this? Anyother comments are of course appreciated.

    The Preben Holm:

    The other two:

    Thanks!

    Look like some nice pipes.

The Preben Holm, as noted, is actually a Ben Wade second. Hard to say who carved it, though it is certainly in line with the type of pipes Preben was doing in the 70's. It would be nice to see the stamping. Preben's name was slapped on a lot of stuff in that time period. Sometimes as the "designer" of the shape (or series), sometimes as the actual carver.

The BGD looks solid and I like the shape.
I don't know much about the other one.

Congrats on your new pipes. Let us know how they work for ya.

Looks like the start of a nice freehand collection!! This style is under appreciated so it offers a low price pressure, wide variety and value. Look to CHP-X and Micoli as cool NAC's along with the Danish stuff. Raw, natural with all the unique imperfections (sometimes cheap, out of a box stems) are hallmarks of these pipes.

I've been accused of being stuck in the 70's because of my fondness for Danish Freehands. I'd be interested in seeing the markings of the Preben Holm that designate it as a second. Can you post a pic or describe them? The Monte Verd (Verde) may be a sub-brand of Preben Holm, which may explain the crown marking on the stem. Very cool start. The GBD, however is a standard shape and therefore isn't really a "freehand", but it's a great looking pipe.
