It was probably only a matter of time. I mean, I've been increasingly interested in pipe restoration/carving for a while despite just recently starting to smoke pipes. Pipes are just plain cool. So anyway...after perusing the eBay listings for a while now I bit the bullet on a listing a few days ago. After "patiently" waiting for them to arrive they're here!

    First up...

I wasn't sure how I'd like the yellow stem, but it's not that bad. The shape is interesting too. Around the bowl it looks a little beat up, but can probably smooth that out with a little work.

    Next up...

I think this may become a go to pipe for me. It felt very natural in the hand and mouth. It looks pretty clean overall, but there are some bite marks on the bit.

    Lastly...

Pretty comfortable and seems to be the cleanest of the three.

Overall they're in much better condition than I'd imagined, though they still need a good clean up. Snagged all three for just shy of $25 shipped. A great deal I think and I fear the beginning of an obsession.

Nice looking pipes, I especially like the bulldog! EBay is a great way to build a collection but you have to be patient to find deals. I think you have that down though.

Well upon closer inspection the bit on the second pipe is a little loose. I seem to remember reading somewhere this isn't a big issue as long as it tightens up when the pipe heats up during smoking...yes?

Thanks for the bees wax tip, I'll give that a try if smoking doesn't tighten 'er up. The first pipe is marked Craftsman, the second is a Yello-Bole Spartan, the last one is just marked "imported briar". Looks like there were some markings on the other side of the stem, but they've been smudged out by an overzealous buffer at some point.

Yep, most tighten up nicely. Three good choices, I like that squat Author (yellow stem).

That was a great video. I have to find some time to swing by a hardware store and pick up a few things and I'll be ready to begin the restorations.
