It's been a while since I've smoked any OI. I opened a tin this afternoon and made that right.

To me, Ten Russians and Old Ironsides are neck and neck when it comes to stout Latakia blends.

So what's your call? Which of these do you prefer?

I know that there's plenty of other sublime Latakia blends out there, please limit your responses in this thread to these two choices.

I can send you some samples in exchange for a black and mild cigar.

If I had such an atrocious thing, you would have had it for your cigar video.

Well, I'll send both of you guys samples, not because I'm a nice guy, but only because Berg gave me a tin of each, and I feel guilty about that. Plus, if the tobacco apocalypse comes, I want to stay in Berg's good graces because he is my designated "sugar daddy".

I vote for OI. Ten Russians is great but has the tendency to make my head spin. I can smoke OI all day without any adverse effects.

CanĀ“t vote. OI is not familiar to me. Ten Russians is good especially in winter. Latakia blends in winter evenings :bing:

Right now I prefer Ten Russians but I have not had Old Ironsides in quite a while. Maybe I need to give this one another try.

I prefer the ten Russians. Of course it could be because the Ten Russians I have is 15 years old. The OI I have is fresh.

OI. No, wait... TR. Dammit man, I can't make up my mind. I'll have another bowl and lunch today of OI and then some TR tonight when I get home. I'll be back...

At the time, I remember thinking how chinzty those Hermit and Pease tins looked, now when I see them I know there's gold inside:)

I almost get a flutter in my chest when I open the cabinet and see those old red Ten Russian Labels........

They're both great, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the Ten Russians--I like the nic and I can always find it in stock.

The OI I was gifted is from 8/12, I believe I described it in PM as smoked ham, bacon, and smoked oysters. Very tasty.

Well. This is difficult. The TR Berg dumped on me :toast: is from 9/12, so practically the same age as the OI. Their tin notes are almost identical...but I would have to say TR has a lighter essence side by side. Terrific smoke, I think the VA is just a little brighter in TR. Still smoky, oily at times, just a hint lighter than OI (to me). Thing is, they both scratch that hard to reach spot on my palate. Too early, can't choose, more research needed.

    I call "BULL CRAP"!!!

Old Ironsides (USS Constitution) fought in the war of 1812 and as I remember the Soviet Union was not even in the conflict. :fpalm:

Never tasted OI, but Ten Russians is quite stout for me. I smoked it about two years ago and jarred it. Guess I need to revisit it now that my pipe skills have improved and my appreciation for taste is more mature.
