Local antique store in town, had a few minutes and stopped in. Combing thru some pretty sad looking estates, cracked this & that... and then the white dot! It appears to be 1961, pretty crisp markings, group 4, no teeth marks but heavy oxidation, very light cake, light char, crisp rim. Stem rotated off, snug, no cracks. $65.00.

Nice snag. This would easily sell for $150 on Ebay and over $250 retail.

Good for you. They obviously knew it was worth something more than $8.50 but didn't do enough research to justify cleaning it up a little. Of course, they probably paid $8.50 for it and are happy to take a clean profit and go back to their Lladro collecting. I definitely need to look harder, the few I've seen around here have been of moderate value but extreme price. Gives one hope.

Nice catch, John. Like many, all I've come across at antique stores are over-priced low-end beaters. The search continues....

John you should get in your car, drive up to Monterey, and give me that pipe. I'll pay for the gas, maybe give you a cigar or something. I have aquarium passes, but I don't wanna go.

Thanks folks. He knew it was a Dunhill, and yes Hudson you nailed the reason behind the price. I didn't offer him any less, I'll go back & check from time to time!
Note: it's amazing how beat up the other pipes were, a cracked meer, slammed up Kaywoodie's, Algerian briar near death.. This pipe was on a different shelf:D

You are lucky. All I ever find in places like that are two left footed galoshes.
