After reading an article by GL Pease about the ever changing formula for Balkan Sobranie I decided to give it a go based on one of the formulas he posted. I mixed some Latakia, Virginia Brightleaf and some Xanthi Yaka (Yenindje). I must say, I've never tried the real Balkan Sobranie but this stuff exceeded my expectations so much that I ordered more Latakia so that I can make a bulk 1 pound batch of the stuff.

Nice! Where do you get your tobaccos for blending purposes?

The Latakia I bought from pipesandcigars, the Brightleaf I bought from "Whole Leaf Tobacco" and the Yenidje (Xanthi yaka) I grew. I think this year I'll buy an electric smoker and try making my own Latakia. I know it won't be the same as the commercial version but it should be close based on a sample a friend of mine made using a "regular" smoker.

If you made your own blend that was good enough for you to make more of and smoke yourself, it matters little if it tastes like Sobranie or not! :appl:
