I have Tripoli, White Diamond and Carnuba. I understand the uses for the White Diamond and Carnuba, but someone please tell me when you would use Tripoli.

I have coarse and fine buffing compounds that I bought at Lowe's. The coarse (white) takes out sanding scratches pretty fast but leaves a dull finish. The fine stuff (green) makes the material bright and shiny. A quick search makes it look like Tripoli is coarse and White Diamond is fine.

Ah, so Tripoli to remove scratches and blemishes, White Diamond to polish, and Carnuba to wax. Am I correct?

Yes. And dedicate a different buff to each compound.

I do have three 4" wheels that I have marked appropriately for each compound. I have a soft spiral stitch wheel for the Carnuba, a soft spiral stitch for the White Diamond, and a firm spiral stitch (yellow) for the Tripoli.

And you need a Flannel Buff for the final buffing after applying the carnauba.

A new buffing wheel needs "break in" before use.
