Tiny screw-driver metal
Stupidest = unfired rounds of ammunition (any that will fit).
Most common ill-advised thing = finger
hey! lol, does ot go with the occasional "klap" (aka smack) too?
-empty bullet shell (300 Win Mag)
-pen / pencill (some fancy expensive gift ones to be marked for life)
-a collection of tamping tools lying where I've smoked last (and by pure chance I found it while looking for a tamping tool, only to lose it again)
-someone else's finger with the necessary repercussions
-and my latest - I turned one, similar to my trusty 300 WinMag empty shell from a piece of wood that was too small for any other purpose.
I need to get hold of some empty bullet cases to make into a tamper! Damn it being in the UK :P
Old chewed pipe stem
golf T..my main tamper now..
I used a folded over pipe cleaner before and a quick action index finger at times.
An empty brass 7mm Mauser cartridge stuffed with toothpicks. Makes a great pipe tool as well.
I remember biking to a park on the Lake once last Summer and not having a tamper, I crawled around on the ground looking for a stick that would be an ideal tamper.
I was smoking alongside a creek and found a rock that was long enough to hold, narrow enough to fit in the bowl and flat enough to tamp. I have also used my nimrod lighter in larger bowled pipes
Was out in the warehouse yesterday having a smoke and realized I left my tamper in my office. After a quick rummage through the pockets a tube of chap stick worked quite well
I use my finger all the time, after you tamp too hard a few times you learn your lesson. Other than that I've used a nail, a twig I found while on a walk with my wife and son, and a golf tee. I have like 15 Czech tools so I usually don't need to use a substitute, but sometimes I find my finger works best, especially when you have an uneven burn going on and you want to coax the edges toward the middle to take a light better.
I used the round threaded end of a small pair of vise grips the other day because I left my tamper inside
Live .50 Cal round in some of my larger pipes.
I often use my finger to tamp while I am outside or in the car. Today I forgot that I had gloves on and set my glove aglow. Made a nice tamping job though.
just used a drill bit while I was sitting next to a toolbox! Why is the tamp tool never with you when you want it?!?
Case XX pocket knife. A mini trapper I was given as a graduation present it's never left my pocket since.
This week, I used the flat end of a powder blue tent stake when I couldn't find my Czech tool.
I used a pipe tamper the other day...
