My brother-in-law has smoked a pipe since I can't remember when. He and I have spent a lot of time sitting around a fire, swapping tales, sharing our lives, talking about our wives and kids. Aaron always had his pipe. I always thought, one day I'm going to smoke a pipe too. Aaron and his family celibrate Christmas at our house, so in 2011 I decided I'd buy a pipe and an ounce of tobacco in preperation of his visit. The rest is history. from then 'till now has been a wonderfull journey. I'm always eager to learn more when it comes to pipes. And I'm ever gratefull to my brother-in-law, Aaron, for passing his hobby on to me. So...who got you started ?

I learned meditation on the internet.
I'm pretty sure I'm better at it than everyone else.

Can you have a mentor whom you never met? If so, then it would be my grandfather who was quite the pipe smoker and passed before I was born. I have one of his pipes and smoke it every week.

Sadly, I don't have someone to point to as a mentor--well, except for everyone on this forum!

I can say that I am trying to be a mentor to three buddies and a coworker. Gotta keep growing the brotherhood!

One of my best friends dads. He would always get on me about smoking cigs and let me try his pipe.....that was the end of the cigs. From then on every time I am over at the house we fire up the pipes.

I have mentioned on a number of occasions, but it was my great uncle Eddie, I have his pipe I got it after he died, his was my first pipe, everything else was of the internets and of course psf but one man here really pointed me in the right direction around a month ago and he showed me that up until then I was only playing at it, he gave me the push I needed to dip my toe in the water so to speak, I would rather not mention his name, but Im sure he knows who he is, so it is a psf member who I would say is my mentor, cheers my friend :toast:

I would challenge that statement but I don't want to break my concentration.

David Lewton, formerly of The Smoke Ring on the NE side of Indianapolis, way back in 1982. God love him, he was right about dang near everything! And now... so am I.

:laff: (crap! KNEW I'd never get that last part out without laughing....)

Saw a video on youtube by a guy named Dwaugh. I was smoking a cob all wrong until I discovered that gem.

I bypass the right and wrong thing by not knowing anything. It seems to come naturally for me.
In all honesty, Berg and DGE, and many other PSFers have helped me along the way. Even after all the help, I'm really not very good at smoking a pipe. I can't even keep anything lit, but if I had let failure stand in my way, I'd be nowhere :D Dang, my GPS went dead and who turned out the lights?

There is always that cup of water and needle thing, but then again, the lights are out..
I would just stumble around until I hit something, or get tired and fall asleep

This whole PSF forum, with an especial nod to Sasquatch who really knows the mechanics of smoking and pipes.

Oh, and Spillproof, I am so zen that I'm not even tempted to be jealous of your outrageous claim.
